Around the 1980's, the trees of New Zealand were being cut down and protesters were tree sitting on the trees of Pureora to stop the tree from logging operations. In order to stop this, protesters built tree houses and “sat” in them to stop the logging operations. Because of the tree sittings, the government permanently stopped tree destruction and they made that place into a national park.
